Year Selection
The correct year is important as values are changed each year. You should
select the year in which the assessment starts.
The curret year is selected by default, but please note that it may have
to be changed.
In 2008, many of the asessments will be a re-assessment of an existing
assessment, as such it may well be that 2007 should be selected.
The Adult Section is for supplying basic information about the adults.
Adult Data is to include those that will pay, receive or affect the Child
Support payments.
Those who may pay are parents of the children for which CS is to be paid,
thier ATI (Adjusted Taxable Income) is crucial to accuracy of the calculations.
Recipients may be parents or non-parent carers (e.g a Grandparent).
For non-parent carers you should only specify one of a couple, if they
are a couple.
If a parent has other Child Support cases, then the other parent also
needs to be provided, as the calculator will work out the CS for the other
cases and it also needs to work out multi-case amounts.
ATI stands for Adjusted Taxable Income (generally the figure on
your tax return).
Other amounts that should be added to the taxable income are;
Gross Reportable Fringe Benefits Total
Target Foreign Income
Net Rental Losses
Some tax-free pensions or benefits
Disability Support Pension
Wife Pensions
Carer Payments
Invalidty Service Pension
Partner Service Pension
Income Support Supplement
Defence Force Income Support Allowance
The ATI is also required for the accuracy of other cases.
The ATI of non-parent carers does not affect calculations, it is best
to specify an ATI of $0 for non-parent carers.
Names do not have to reflect actual names, however they are used
to help clarify the output which can be complex.
This section is for the addition of children and the relationships that
they each have with the adults.
Children to add are those for which CS is to be paid.
In addition children from other cases, where a parent pays or receives
CS should be added.
Furthermore biological or adopted children of the parents added, should
also be added.
Such children from other cases should also be added for accuracy of the
calculation of the other cases.
A reltionship, CS wise, is required for each child to each adult.
If the adult is not a parent then unless that adult has care of the child,
the relationship should be Other.
Parent Abroad is only considered differently if a non-parent carer is
involved.
Along with each relationship, the number of nights care that the adult
has needs to be supplied and the total per child, must be 365.
Please note that even though nights care is specified, care during the
daytime can be considered, however the CSA have to determine how a number
of days care equates to nights care.
Remember to tick the box for any children that are over 13.
Names do not have to reflect actual names, however they are used to help
clarify the output which can be complex.
